Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island is just a 25-minute fast catamaran ferry ride (11 kilometres) from the North Queensland capital city of Townsville. There are regular fast cat and car and passenger ferry services to the island daily.
Magnetic Island is the only island within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park that offers freehold services. Some 89% of the island is either mountainous national park, zoned public open space or non urban, leaving only 11% for development and all other purposes. As vacant land is strictly limited on Magnetic Island, scarcity will drive capital growth as demand outstrips supply.
Magnetic Island is located within the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is part of the 14-island Magnetic and Palm Island group. The region offers superb boating, fishing and diving locations, with the Great Barrier Reef only 27nm from the island and a number of world class dive sites within close proximity.
Magnetic Island has an abundance of outdoor activities including jet ski tours, sailing, canoeing, snorkeling over coral reefs, water skiing, parasailing and horse back riding, to name just a few.
While visiting Magnetic Island, it is imperative to discover the spectacular views from The Forts walk, where World War II infrastructure still remains. The Forts offer breath taking panoramic views of Magnetic Island and the Coral Sea.
Magnetic Island is the only island on the north coast to combine a national park with a permanent residency of some 2500 people. You'll find all the conveniences such as shops, supermarkets, buses, taxis and boutiques, as well as quality restaurants, cafes and nightclubs.
Magnetic Island has the unique distinction of being the sunniest island on the northern coast with over 300 days of sunshine each year, giving more time to experience its signature blend of beach activities and relaxation. Reflecting the tropical lifestyle, dress is casual, cool and light, with a sweater for winter evenings and boating.
Following the completion of the world class Nelly Bay Harbour (Magnetic Harbour), Magnetic Island is fast becoming recognised as the North's best kept secret. The Island now boasts one of Queensland's finest harbour/marina living precincts, providing the island with:
- a state of the art all weather passenger and vehicular ferry facility and terminal
- a new commercial village incorporating specialty shops, restaurants, tavern, wine bar, dive facilities, supermarket
- the Magnetic Harbour development will see around 350 residential townhouses, units and holiday accommodation
- state of the art marina
- property management and holiday letting facility
Magnetic Island is accessed via a regular passenger and vehicle ferry from Townsville. Townsville is 1359 kilometres north of Brisbane and as the transport and logistics hub of North Queensland, has excellent access via air, road, rail and sea.
All of Townsville major transport centres - airport, bus terminal, train station and port - are located within close proximity to the city centre and both of the passenger ferry terminals.
